We are ghosts

Two audio recordings of me reading We are ghosts:

We are ghosts
& certainly
To each other

I felt it today
Especially
While reading
Your words

It’s like at one
Point all
We wanted
Was to be
Together
&
Forever

& then
I guess
You didn’t
Want that
Anymore

I wanted you
To feel meaning
Not for you
To trap
& then
Release me

I wonder really
What you’re trying
To tell me

I know you
Struggle
A lot
With
Being

I promise

You though

You’ll find life
When you accept
Ghostness

I have become
A ghost
Many times
Over &
Now I’m made
Of æther

Fully & completely

I am a ghost
I have been so
For so long now

Maybe one
Day you’ll
Know me
Really
But I no
Longer
Cross my
Fingers

& that’s
For obvious
Reasons

Cookie store

Hectic & bustling
The mall cookie store rustling
You wrap things neatly

For the Word of the Day Challenge prompt ‘hectic’

Authour’s note: a poem for day 14 of month a of poetry 2021. I haven’t written a haiku or a senryū in a bit, so I thought I’d write the latter. This is more observational than satirical but it is a subtle comment on working life.

Multitudes

The secret place I put
My heart that day

I left it in a hotel room
Hidden underneath something

I couldn’t bring it home
With me
I feel it striving to
Return

You made me
Give myself to you

What was the point
Of that?

Correlating
Strings
Of nothing
Reaching
Pulling
Snapping
Calling

My heart
Away from
Me
I call it
Back to me

It doesn’t hear
Me anymore
But I know
One day

I’ll be multitudes
Again
& my heart will
Come back

& meet me with the tenderness it holds

& hold me in its

Splendid words

Superpower

Foisted upon you

An impossible situation

Expectation beyond

Safe intervention

Nonetheless

Dressed for the

Occasion

In an outfit

Beseeming you

You defy

Expectation

Challenging

Injustice

Looking sharp

& gorgeous

With flowing blouson

& heart-shaped

Sunglasses

You take on

The questions

Solving equations

Getting through it

Looking amazing

No one expects

Your sheer resiliency

Little do they know

You’re not broken easily

Instead you soar

& you fly

Aesthetics your armour

Your salient superpower

Superpower

Time machine

It was a memorable
Moment when
You brought home
The news

For the first time
They knew
That the time
Would renew

& they go forward
In a time machine
To live out regret
Again

Only this time
There’d be a chance
To do it all over again
But differently this time

Counting notes
Counting rythms
This is my favourite
Sooong

Playing

We’re singing

We’re going

& going

The matrix
It takes you
Away from
All wrong

Fixing the
Mixings
Of all what
Went wrong

Imagine
Imagine
The first
Of September

October
Skip to
Wonderful
Sad
December

But wait
Remember
Remember
A memorable
November

No I don’t either
It got lost
In the æther

Tape

It was a delicate operation
Requiring careful consideration
What would come of the direction
Was another crumbling foundation

Mending broken heartedness
A wonderful reawakening
Learning to work with
What’s available
& making the most of
What’s on the table

I can’t believe

That could

Not be real
Unreal
Nonreal
Dereal
Real

Surreal

Reels of tape
Magnetic
Frames
Blurred edits
Video art

You were there
For a moment
& I was there
For a second

That’s about
All the time
I was given
In the scheme
Of things

The scene was set
& several times reset
To try & make
It realistic

Realism can’t be
Depicted really

Accessories

Twist ties
Accessories
Hair clips
Spools of thread

Needles
Being
Careful
To put
Things
In
Containers

But not
Your feelings
Those need
To be felt
Freely
Falling
Through
Æther

In dream
In crescendo

A flare

Will it rain again today?

I wonder
But I try & say
Something
Much more
Interesting

Today
Today
Today

Playing
Light
Forgetting
Night
At the
Height
Of the
Afternoon

Splendid
Spending
Depending

Do you think
You can
Determine
Our future?

I used to think
I could feel things
Coming

& maybe so
But what’s the
Difference?

To know or
To know or
To know

How many questions
Was I allowed

Sun high
Reminding us
Of setting

Setting tables
Placemats
& placeholders

You dressed nicely
I did dresses nicely too

It felt good
To be there
With you

Memories
& mindful present
Can exist in conversation

That’s how
I view it now
Through glasses
Through description

The greatest story
You ever gave me
Was the real one
At the end

From ashes
I rose
Ghost-like
No ghost-fully
Scathed
But remarkably
Still & even

© Niliema Karkhanis

Authour’s note: Inspired by Hoa Nguyen‘s (authour website) junk drawer song (you can learn about how to write one here) & the to-do list prompt from glopowrimo day 9.

I wrote this poem for day 10 kind of combining attributes from each prompt of the last couple of days, & things I maybe thought of after that I would like to have incorporated into my to-do list poem Much ado & to do & my drawer/song poem Paradoxes.

This piece is I guess a part 3 since I feel like the other 2 are connected to each other as well.

Tranquility

Quiet
Tranquil
Dawn
First birds
Singing
Colourful
Sweet songs

Hazy violet
Starry sky
Bringing in
The morn

Listening to
The radio
Wakeful
Words
& tunings
Before the
Start
Of bustling

Anticipating
What’s ahead
Preparing
For what’s
To unfold

Decisions
For the future
Big ones
& small ones

Getting beyond
Obstacles
Creating newness
One day at
A time

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt ‘tranquil’

Authour’s note: poem 18/30 for a month of poetry 2021. A reflection on the dawn & the complex feelings of looking towards the day, also as a metaphor for the future.

Of certainty

I can give up
So many times
That even when
I’m not doing so
I’m not sure about

Anything
Anymore

Certainty
Is just a
Passing
Sentiment
Always
Anyway

Anyway we’re here
& it’s all that matters
In this minute

& today

Authour’s note: poem 9 for a month of poetry. I’m going with existential themes because they fit my mood. I’ll probably do some whimsical pieces too. Today I’m pensive.

Of the fool

The Fool tarot card by Pamela Colman Smith

April starts
The fool is the comedian
There’s no shame in that

However
There are much more
Accurate ways to
Relieve pain
& express joy
Than punching down
Or laughing at

The clarity of surviving
Of being the fool
0 fux set in
& seriousness
Replaces

Then blooms a humour
Far more sophisticated

Words precise
Incisive & generous
Taking comedy
To another level

© Niliema Karkhanis

Authour’s notes: poem 5 of day 5 for a month of poetry.

Discussing some themes in comedy & with perceptions of ‘the fool’. Originally written for a prompt, I put it aside from the morning to contemplate on it & edit it. I didn’t end up changing it too much.

I’m writing a lot these days & intend to create at least a poem a day through April, however since I’m writing more lately, I’m going to set a goal to complete 30 poems.

If I get tired, I’ll reshare stuff or stick to one poem for that day. If I finish early, I’ll reset my goals & maybe do some writing on themes in the latter part of the month.

Anyway, today felt great. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about starting, but I’m just super excited about doing another month of poetry right now.

As I have discussed before, I’ve done years where I’ve made it through half the month or less, & that was great too. So let’s see. Honestly, no matters what happens, it’ll be fun. It’s poetry after all.

Looking forward to the month ahead. & reading your works too. 💜💜💜🎶🎵💗💌
