Pistachio ice cream

Winter is but a memory
In the melting heat
You told me about
Your first dreams
Your final dreams

We sat on the park bench
Eating pistachio ice cream
You could hurt people
& then like a child
Enjoy a treat
People are like this

Pistachio ice cream
Is my favourite

What did Hannah call it?
The banality of evil

Cookie store

Hectic & bustling
The mall cookie store rustling
You wrap things neatly

Authour’s note: a poem for day 14 of month a of poetry 2021. I haven’t written a haiku or a senryū in a bit, so I thought I’d write the latter. This is more observational than satirical but it is a subtle comment on working life.

Go

The tidy ways
We present our messes
The ways we try &
Perfect ourselves
Letting go
We hold on
To things

Of certainty

I can give up
So many times
That even when
I’m not doing so
I’m not sure about

Anything
Anymore

Certainty
Is just a
Passing
Sentiment
Always
Anyway

Anyway we’re here
& it’s all that matters
In this minute

& today

Authour’s note: poem 9 for a month of poetry. I’m going with existential themes because they fit my mood. I’ll probably do some whimsical pieces too. Today I’m pensive.

Daylight

Rest comes
When sometimes
Not chosen
Unknown
Notification

Tall days
Sun high
Days

I haven’t yet
Recovered from
The time change

The extra
Sunlight
Is nice

What else is
There to say

I’m glad it’s
A holiday
Because I
Want to sleep
All day

Migraine
Migraine
Go away
Do not
Return
Another
Day

Imagination
Please
Provide
Reprieve
From this

Way down
Inside the
Earth
Is where
The answers
Lay

We can’t get
To everything
Tired or not
This life is
One of questions

& the games
We play

Authour’s notes: Well I’m going to include a bit about how I’m feeling as I go through this month of writing.

I have a migraine today. So I decided I’d write about it in it & season change in this, my 6th poem, for the month thus far.

Rumpled & crumpled

Crumpled
Heart

My rumpled clothes

I don’t iron

Anymore

My snickering nose

For I laugh about
How things go
How my body
Knows about
Things

& limits
& choices
& clothes
It knows

We work
For change
As we go
We throw
Away time
Too
We know

That’s how
It is

Rumpled
& crumpled
& crawling
& calling
We sew

The paradisiac

Where is the paradisiac?

Is it a place in the sky

As we’ve been taught?

~○~

Maybe so

Or maybe

It’s also

What we’ve

Got

~○~

Moments

Of sublime

In the midst

Of so much

Of not

Gardens of

Imagination

In a world

Which makes

Lots & lots

~○~

Ruled by

Those too

Consumed

With power

To get that

~○~

Too preoccupied

With taking

& taking

To appreciate

The abundance

Of this

Planet’s

Makings

~○~

It’s fantastic

Marvelous

Amazing

Creations

~○~

Those who know

Know that the

Here & now

Is neither

A paradisiac

To be overlooked

Nor ignored

Nor wasted
