Codes

Photo by Markus Spiske from Unsplash

Codes learned
Codes broken
I don’t disappoint
Nor do I become
Disappointed
Like I once did

Carefully understanding
The lines of symbols
The pages given
To semiotics

Meaning meaning
In pieces
What is said
What went
What was meant

Dissent is their bent
You didn’t really get that
& so it went
In that one universe
You adored

That one where
Nothing ever repeats
Itself
For better
Or for worse

Trajectory

You try not
To let stuff
Hurt so much
Because how
Can misunderstanding
Be governing
Over understanding

Even from
Only a few

This is how we
Construct
Newness anyway
Or maybe it’s not
Really newness
It’s the wisdom
Of the ages

Accepted
Resuscitated
Resiliation
Of this & that

Leads to the
Percussion
Of your own
Trajectory

Of forgiveness

There is no
Reason to
Forgive
Those who
Have caused
You harm

How you feel
Is how you feel

We’re often told
That to be good
Or get over
Things
We have to
Stop being sad
& angry about them

However
That’s just not true
How you process
Your emotions
Is up to you

The only other
Thing to consider
Is to not hurt
Others ever
As much as
Possible
& work every day
On being better

Giving forgiveness
Where it’s not warranted
Could even result
In something detrimental

Maybe you need
Something very different
Like to process that hurt
In a full spectrum

Self-care they say
You do you
To say it again
Do it your own way

Authour’s note: this is inspired by survivor stories & kind of an ode to the myriad ways people process trauma.

Overture

The overture
Of us
It was
A crescendo
Like no
Other

Libretto
Off the page
The instruments
Transformed
Altogether

It lasted
No more
Than
A few
Lilting
Minutes
Rests & all

The bass
& the
Treble
Fading to
A lull

Upon the return
To chorus
A method of onus
The overture
Returns
Reminding us
Of endings

Sentience & substance

Substance
evading me
Sentience
Holding
Me
Indefinitely
An insistent
Wind
Hits
Carrying
Welcome
Rebellion
We’re
Not giving
Up just yet
Not ever
Even when
There’s doubt
There’s
A sureness
Forever

The pink & lilac dusk

The pink & lilac
Dusk brings
Me to
You
On
Other
Evenings

Our activities

The games

We’d play

Maybe we
Didn’t take it
Seriously
Enough
Or maybe
We took
It all
Too
Seriously

Hospital visits
By magic
We survived
Many things

9 lives
9 stray cats
To keep
Alive
Only one
Comes
Inside

On the balcony
The squirrels
Hide
Peanuts
They find
& the cats
Watch
Them
Curiously
&
Admiringly
As neighbours
On 2nd
& 3rd floors
Giggle & laugh
From inside

These moments

I remember

Through

Many

As some of the coziest

Among the ones

Which are cherished

Today

Today

I feel

A lot

Of things

Too many

To say

Here

I write it

Anyway

~○~

Dreams

Of future

& thoughts

Of now

Grief

Is not

A line

We know

~○~

Feeling is

Marked in time

~○~

Not a day goes by

Where to be

Or to not be

Isn’t a question

~○~

Oh […]

Today
