Futures

When tears don’t come
& all the pain of
Things persist
In the heart

Even after the
Movement
Of clocks’ hands
The turning of
Glowing numbers

Comforting through
The implication
Of futures
Futures
& more futures

Like blocks
Building
Themselves
Water pouring
Itself into
The forms
Of life’s
Portals

On channels
Of transmission
Finding
Information from
Those who
Won’t hold it
Anymore

Narrative memory
Pouring through
Doors & floors
Open windows
Invite outpours

Moody great
Rains cry
Out in plenty
For us all

Releasing
Calls for
More

Otherwise

Ringing
Singing
Bringing
Careful
Revisiting

Wish we
Didn’t
But then
Again
This
& that
Wouldn’t
Have
Happened

Otherwise

Awful
Experiences
Aren’t a
Lesson
Time is
The only
One

Learning
Is only
A virtue
Insomuch
As it is
Useful
Caring

Of ugliness

She never
Knew herself
To be beautiful
Because of
What society
Told her

So she folded
Herself inward
Creating wonderful
Lovely worlds
Within her

Unphased by
Dystopic nihilism
Her ideas defied
Even idealism

Ugliness while
A painful premise
Of banishment
Is where perhaps
True beauty lays

For the ugly
Know beauty as
The beautiful don’t
As something sublime
Profound & intangible

Something a mindset of
Power can never be
Blessed with the
Magical awe to receive

Authour’s note: poem 21/30 for a month of poetry 2021. I think ugliness is misconstrued in our world through ideological filters which determine our perception of what is ‘beautiful’ or ‘ugly’. This work is an attempt to express that philosophical concept through a character in a poetic story.

A morcel of great news

A screen grab to show my page linked on https://www.napowrimo.net/

Just a note to say I’m excited because while I’ve sort of secretly been doing napowrimo for many years, this is the first time I’ve had a proper poetry page to share my link on their page. & Idk it’s a real milestone for me in my art journey.

Thank you again for taking the time to read & appreciate my work. It has increased my confidence to continue on with my creative writing, as is my dream.

Sometimes

Cn: implied (nothing graphic or explicit) ipv (intimate partner violence). A poetic discussion & reflection. No direct discussion of violence.

Sometimes
I can’t forget
What it felt like
To love you

It was beautiful
& it was scary too

I wonder if
Sometimes you
Remember what
It was like
To love me too

Or if you did at all
If that was love
Or something
Superficial
As it felt so

Sometimes
I remember
That threats
Are not love

Sometimes
I forget that
& believe
Something
Else

Time is space
& also a place
Where love goes
& resets itself

There a pace
Sets itself
To belief
In better days

Knowing the ways
That care
Is what’s
Giving & safe

Sometimes
I’m certain
That love is
Definitively
Not a curtain
Of obfuscation

To know it
Is goodness
Not a false
Sense of
Self

I know that
I loved you
With all of
My heart

& sometimes
That’s enough
To be aware
That living

Is about giving
& not about getting

Sometimes
I’m reminded
That when
It’s said that
It’s better to have
Loved & lost
Than never
To have loved
At all
No matter
How broken

This aphorism
That connection
Is recognition
& we can’t control
Outcomes

Yet I tend to
Believe that
What’s lost
On someone
Who lets
Love lose
Is concern
For another’s
Depth
& well-being

Sometimes
I know this
What it is
More than
Anything
Else

Sometimes
Reality
Makes me
Question
Myself

& question
What love is
More than
Anything else

Tranquility

Quiet
Tranquil
Dawn
First birds
Singing
Colourful
Sweet songs

Hazy violet
Starry sky
Bringing in
The morn

Listening to
The radio
Wakeful
Words
& tunings
Before the
Start
Of bustling

Anticipating
What’s ahead
Preparing
For what’s
To unfold

Decisions
For the future
Big ones
& small ones

Getting beyond
Obstacles
Creating newness
One day at
A time

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt ‘tranquil’

Authour’s note: poem 18/30 for a month of poetry 2021. A reflection on the dawn & the complex feelings of looking towards the day, also as a metaphor for the future.

Coincidence 2

1

Coinciding

Colliding

Timing

Arriving

To us

We coincide

For a second

In the universe

Of space

Of time

Surviving in us

Desire

2

We wrote songs

For eachother

& jokes

We wrote jokes

Not many

But enough

Of everything

For a moment

3

For several weeks

I sheltered my fears

In love you maybe

Never believed

Was there

4

I told you the stories

Would be all that would

Be borne of it

& even though you

Took away […]

Authour’s note: repost of a recent favourite for a month of poetry 2021

Somehow

Ornamental sentiments
About disintegration

Avoided for formulae about revolution

Finding meaning
In the meaningless
Somehow all the pieces
Fit together

An unraveling
A revolution
For all of it

For Frank J. Tassone’s Hakai Challenge

Authour’s notes: poem 17/30 for a month of poetry 2021.

The haikai I chose to write here is a spring equinox themed tanka. The tanka poem has a 5 – 7 – 5 – 7 – 7 syllabic structure.

Music

Music plays
Time stopping
& going inside
Of the audacity
Of sound’s many
Possibilities

The beautiful
Night air
Cradling
Wonderful tones
About impossible
Possibilities

To the tune
Of poetry
Melting
Glowing within
From bird-like
Beings

Telling stories
Of love &
Love lost

I remember
Our bodies
Dancing
Through the
Nights
Emotions on
Our skin
Glowing beings
Making things

Love
A lonely
Afterthought
& also everywhere
Within us

Fortuitous dawn
Reminding us
Of all rejuvenation
Resurrection even

Singing our own
Songs now
The city caring
In movements
