Treasure

You are what you eat
You’ll become digested
Well love it isn’t felt
No love is tested
~ Tom Smith

About

Treasure
Treasure

Pendulum
Don’t you
Just ignore
It

No
This isn’t
Going to
Be going
Anywhere

The condition
Of the flowers
The air sings
Songs about it

Those winds
Speak words

You eat your cake
& have it too
Don’t you?

Motocar

Racing
Down
The
Speedway

Over &
Over
You
Played
Her

& then
You penned
A poem
About it

As if fiction
Could solve it

Sometimes it does
Doesn’t it?

You digest the prize
Of the æons of tries
They always
Told you
What you were

They were wrong
Weren’t they?
Yes they were wrong
They were
They were

Authour’s note: This is another poem for day 17 of glopowrimo using the Word of the Day Challenge prompt ‘digest’.

Equivalent to me to an ekphrasis, but about the song Like Treasure by Editors. The beginning part refers to the song. As the piece goes along, it tells a story kind of interpreted from the lyrics, but it’s own thing. A composite version of an ekphrasis about music.

I’ve been trying to write an ekphrastic poem forever, but I’m kind of working on some things about visual art pieces in the back of my mind.

In the meantime, I thought I’d go with Tom Smith’s allegory & kind of do a practice using music.

By far my favourite version of this song is one he recently recorded for his instagram. You can watch it here. I hope you enjoy the song & my poem. 💜🎶🌙🌷🌿

Facing

Cloth-wrapped packages

A pleasure to receive

The cloth-wrapped world

This æther

We are of it

I am from it

The gifts of skies

Wrapped in clouds

Mauve

Taupe

Dreams

& reveries

What Saturday

Brings more

Activity

These days

Quarantine

A determinant

Of many things

I don’t resent

I value

The safety we

Build

Wrapping cloth

Masks

Eyes speaking

Faces

A belief

In the future

Of everything

Weekdays we

Make our way

In new ways

Cloth

Paper

Elastic

Life

Art & music

Patience

Cloth-wrapped

Bodies

Eternally

Facing

The possibility

Of making

Anew

Textures of

Things

We weren’t

Expecting
